Fruit Fun! (KPN)

A child's body requires food that’s healthy and nutritious for their mental and physical development. Children spend much of their day playing and learning hence, both activities require energy and vitality that can only be gotten from wholesome food. But children can be quite fussy about what they want to and don’t want to eat and it’s especially hard to convince them to eat fruits. Unfortunately, kids don’t always enjoy food that’s good for them. But parents can use imaginative ways to make fruit look more appealing to kids. A little creativity can go a long way to intrigue and excite children and have them take more interest in healthier food items.
Fruits contain a lot of benefits and should be eaten regularly. Many fruits such as strawberries, blackberries and grapes contain Vitamin C which is important for the growth and repair of body tissues, which attacks potentially harmful free radicals in the body and neutralizes them. There are ways that you can get your children to eat fruit and have them regard fruit as exciting and fun!

Some creative fruit recipes:

1. Fruit Face
Ingredients:
Grapefruit, Grapes (for hair and eyes), Cherry, Blueberry or Grape (for nose), Raisins, Grapes or a Banana (for the mouth).

Instructions:
Arrange red or green grape clusters around the top for hair. Add red grape eyes, a maraschino cherry nose and a big grin made of raisins or banana slices.

2. Sunshine Pancakes
Ingredients:
Regular Pancakes, Strawberries (for sun’s rays), Cherries or Blueberries (for nose, eyes and mouth).

Instructions:
Slice the strawberries in halves and arrange around the pancakes to make rays. Arrange the cherries or blueberries on top of the pancake to make the eyes and nose. You can also add banana clouds on the side (squash the bananas to make them look like clouds).

3. Fruit Skewer Pine Tree
Ingredients:
One large pineapple, small skewers and assorted fresh fruit (grapes, strawberries, apple, cherries and honeydew).

Instructions:
To make the tree trunk, remove the top and cut 1 inch off of the bottom of a large pineapple, then peel it. On the skewers, put three to five pieces of assorted fresh fruits. Starting at the bottom, insert the skewers into the pineapple at a slight angle. After the branches are eaten, don't forget to slice up the tree trunk.
